Charlie Owens is a mixed media artist, living and working as an Art Director in Atlanta, Georgia. He was born and raised in the South, moving from Knoxville, Tennessee at the age of 18 to attend the Art Institute of Atlanta for a degree in Visual Communications. After graduating he spent several years as a freelance graphic designer. During those years he started experimenting with different art mediums, while at the same time developing his skills and knowledge in areas of design. Eventually the two worlds combined and matured into the recognizable style of art that Owens is known for today. Much of his work is influenced texturally by urban decay street art, but at the same time his love for iconic illustration, clean design, composition and typography is clearly apparent. He achieves this style by using a painstakingly complex layering technique which combines methods of vector and freehand illustrations, screen printing, stenciling, and the use of a wide range of acrylics, stains, wheat paste and other materials used in a free-form manner, producing the natural distressed final composition. By combining his love of hands-on fine-art craftsmanship and mathematically precise design layouts, Owens has made a name for himself with his uniquely stylized female forms and the complex over-sized murals and installations that showcase the depth and dimension of his talent.
